With the Coronavirus pandemic and protests about George Floyd’s murder, it can be difficult to see the good in the world. It can send you down a dark hole with no hope of seeing any change. Mental help is extremely important, especially now. To get me out of a dark mindset, I do everything I can. My self-care routine helps me stay in a positive mindset. This includes journaling, meditating, calling my friends, and watching movies. Watching movies is one thing that I can definitely rely on to get me out of my head. My brain gets so wrapped up in the new world, or the characters that I temporarily forget the bad that’s happening around me.

Here are some of the 20 best feel-good movies to watch. These are some of my favorites and I always end up smiling after watching these. Hopefully, the happiness that these movies bring me can do the same for you.

Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse

If you didn’t know this already, I’m obsessed with Spiderman. This movie is absolutely everything. If you are okay with animated movies, this movie is everything you could possibly want. The characters are relatable, the action is fantastic, and the actual animation is beautiful.

The Princess Bride

This movie is a classic. You got romance, honor, revenge, and action. It is funny and heartwarming. The movie begins with a little boy being read a story by his grandpa. This movie brings so much nostalgia of my childhood. You can’t help but recite all the words. “My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father, prepare to die.”

Couples Retreat

This movie cracks me up from the very beginning. A group of couples goes to a retreat as support for their friends who were struggling as a couple only to find that their relationships or dynamics weren’t as good as they thought. Definitely worth watching.

Miss Congeniality

It’s hard to believe that this movie came out 20 years ago. Sandra Bullock is amazing, as usual. She plays a cop who goes undercover in at the Miss America pageant. It’s funny and endearing—the perfect Saturday afternoon movie.

The Duff

This movie is definitely one of the corniest movies on this list. It’s your typical high school drama movie. The jock and the nerd “fall in love” or like each other. That part isn’t really classified. They are just into each other. They didn’t realize that they liked each other until the final ten minutes of the movie. Regardless of its corniness, The Duff is a cute movie.

Someone Great

This is the epitome of best friends forever. It’s the type of movie that reminds you of how important your friends are and how they are always there for you in your time of need; and, in this case, a breakup.  If you need a relatable movie, this is it. Watch on Netflix.

The Fifth Element

I love this movie. It’s one of those movies that you can watch over and over and over again. It’s a really bad action movie that takes place in the future. I love all the actors in this movie. And the Diva Scene is fantastic.

The Incredible Jessica James

This is another Netflix original movie. It’s about a quirky black screenwriter who recently broke up with her boyfriend and is trying to make it. It’s sweet. Jessica is relatable and dope. The male lead is funny and not who you would expect to catch feeling for Jessica. If you’re into awkward movies, this is perfect for you.

If there was one Disney leading man that I am in love with, It’s Hercules. He spends the whole movie trying to find himself and where he’s supposed to be. He’s so pure. It’s hard not to fall for him.

The Wedding Date

This movie isn’t super well known, but it is worth watching. The main character hires an escort to go with her to her sister’s wedding in England. Even though the main character is out of her mind, it’s a great movie.

10 Things I Hate About You

Nostalgia is what this movie brings. It’s quintessential 90s, from the fashion to the lingo. I live for high school drama movies. If you needed another reason to watch this movie, all I have to say is Heath Ledger. That’s it.

The Mummy

You know those movies that are always on TV, and you still get wrapped up in the plot even though you know exactly what’s going to happen because you’ve seen it so much? That’s this movie. I’ve watched this movie more than I can count. It’s your typical action movie. Boy meets girl, boy saves girl, they fall in love, and there are mummies. It’s great.

“Ugh, As If.” As a 90s baby, this movie is a requirement. I love the ridiculousness of it all. And if you can get over the weirdness of the main character falling in love with her ex-step brother, then you’ll be okay.

White Chicks

The Wayans Family are comedic royalty. The whole family individually are great, but when they come together, they light up the screen. The concept of this movie is wild. Two cop friends go undercover as “White Chicks” to find the bad guy. Terry Crews’ classic rendition of Vanessa Carlton’s “A Thousand Miles” is worth watching if you haven’t already.

Center Stage

Of the many dance movies that have come out in the last 20 years, this is one of my favorites. I honestly could care less about the plot, but the final dance scene is so beautiful. Also, watching Zoe Saldana dance makes my heart happy.

Eat Pray Love

I read this book after a breakup and watched the movie immediately after. It reminded me that I needed to do more things of what I love and what I wanted. It’s a journey of self-discovery after feeling like your whole life is falling apart. It’s a memoir of Elizabeth Gilbert’s time learning more about her spirituality, amazing food, learning new languages, and falling in love with not just a man but herself.

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

Another classic. This movie reminds me to not take everything so seriously and to go with the flow. Ferris Bueller is the best type of trouble maker. As much as people want to hate him and his ability to avoid getting in trouble, you can’t help but love him.

This movie surprised me. The cast is what initially pushed me to watch this movie. It was so good. The music choice is also fantastic. It’s another animated movie, and it’s definitely feel-goody.

The Proposal

Did I mention that I love Sandra Bullock? She is the rom-com queen. And Ryan Reynolds…HELLO… To avoid deportation, she makes a deal with her assistant to get married. She meets his family and falls in love. If you need anything else to watch this movie, Betty White is in it. Betty Freaking White.

Plus One

This movie surprised the hell out of me. I laughed so hard. Out of curiosity, I watched on Hulu, and I was not disappointed. Two friends use each other as dates to their friends’ wedding and end up falling in love. As usual, one of them tries to resist their feelings and then spends the rest of the movie trying to get the other back.

I know quarantine is hard. We will get through this, one feel good movie at a time.
