15 Habits to Develop Now

I’ve noticed recently that I feel like I’m in a slump. A life slump. Work slump. Relationship slump. I couldn’t figure it out.

I was doing all the things I was supposed to. I would roll out of bed. Get ready for work. Drive to work. Work 8-5. Go home. Eat dinner, sleep, and repeat.

I was alive, but I wasn’t living. I wasn’t taking the time to enjoy the little things. So I changed my routine. It’s nothing too crazy, but it’s little habits that have drastically changed my outlook on life.

These 15 habits to develop now have helped me become more productive, more in tune with myself, and happier. If you want to be happier, follow these 15 tips.

Wake Up Earlier

I know more than anymore that sleep is precious. But start off slow. First, 15 minutes earlier than 30 and gradually go up. It works because I’m awake and ready to start the rest of the day.

Drink More Water

As soon as you wake up, drink one glass of water, preferably with a lemon. It’ll jumpstart your metabolism for the day. Before every meal, drink a glass of water. It’ll help you eat less and stay full. I hate tap water, so I went to the store and bought a Brita refillable water bottle. The best thing about it is that it has a filter, so water tastes better every time.

Meditate

This one is important. Take a few minutes for yourself. Enjoy the feeling of the quiet. Inhale deeply. Inhale the good, exhale the bad.

Recite Feel Good Mantras

Set your intentions for the day. Speak only good. You get what you put into the universe. It sounds like bullshit, but It actually works. Some of my favorites are “money” “strong woman” “handle anything.”

Write Down Goals For The Day

Write down all the things you want to accomplish for the day. Scratch them off as you go. It feels good at the end of the day, and you accomplish your goals. This works not just for the day. I have goals for the month, the next 6 months and a year.

Watch Or Listen to Motivation Podcasts or Ted Talks

During the day, I like to listen to motivational podcasts. I like hearing about how others overcame their struggles. It reminds me that I’m not the only one who’s failed, and others are going through the same thing.

Keep a Journal

I don’t journal every day, but I try to at least once or twice a week. Sometimes it’s more when my insomnia is really bad. It doesn’t even have to make sense. Sometimes I just write a list of all the things floating in my mind. For example, when I’m stressed, I pretty much throw up on the page. I write lists like scared of failure, never finding real love, lonely. Whatever words pop in, I write. It’s effective because it gets things off your mind and onto a page. I usually have a journal in my bag and one by my bed.

Cook a meal twice a week

I love cooking. I always cook a semi healthy meal at least twice a week. I make sure I have enough to take to lunch the next day. Making your own food could save you money. Making your own coffee will also save you big bucks.

2 meatless days

I try to eat meatless at least twice a week.  I’m not even sure why. I just know that I feel better.  And buying meat or meals with meat can be more on the pricier side.

Go for a 20 min walk or jog

One of the benefits of having a dog is that I’m forced to take him out several times a day. 20 mins is not a long time. Get that exercise in as much as you can. I love the outside and feeling the warmth on my skin. Not so much in the winter.

Read before bed

It takes me forever to fall asleep because I can’t seem to put my phone down. I’m not sure why. It’s not like something interesting is going to happen on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook while I’m sleeping. I love reading, so I try to read before I sleep.  It calms me down before bed, and there aren’t any crazy bright lights distracting me.

Get more sleep

This is a must. GET MORE SLEEP. Try to sleep earlier if you can.  Your body needs time to refresh itself and heal. Imagine how much more productive you’d be if you got more than 5 hours of sleep per night.

Self-Care

Moisturize. Moisturize. Moisturize.

Take care of your body. It’s the only one you have. Listen to your body. Your essentially a houseplant. You have to feed yourself nutrients, water, and get plenty of sunlight. I love lighting candles all over my house. Not only do they smell nice, it just gives me good vibes. Take some time for yourself. Do your favorite activities. Have some wine and RELAX.

Save money

Oooooh, girl. Save at least 10% of your paycheck. Of every paycheck. You need a rainy day fund. Or maybe there’s something that you’ve been dying to buy but you can’t. Save money. Trust me. I know it’s hard to save money, but try your hardest. You can look for change all over your house and convert it to cash. Sell the stuff you don’t use anymore. Save money any way you can.

Find a Hobby

Find something that you enjoy doing. Not what your man or girlfriend likes. Or what your mom or best friend likes. No. Find what you like to do. Take time out for yourself to do something you love. Something fun. Hopefully, something creative. Do it what’s stopping you?
