What to Do When You Feel Invisible

Recently, it’s felt like nothing is going my way. New opportunities came and left before I had a chance to dream about it. I felt stuck, lost, alone, and Everything’s felt kind of… bleh. I felt invisible to everyone around me. How is it that you can be surrounded by people all day but still feel alone? No one’s noticed that you’re acting differently or more quiet than usual. You make it an effort to check on everyone and make sure they are okay, but you don’t get that in return. It’s soul-crushing to feel alone.

So what do you do?

Do you wallow in the sadness?

Cry until you fall asleep?

Do nothing until it passes?

What do you do?

This is a hard question to answer because everyone’s different. For me, it was trial and error until I found the right mix of things to get me out of my funk. I’m definitely not an expert, but I hope this helps in some way.

Phone a Friend.

When I’m feeling really sad, I call my best friend. Even when I feel like I’m in the pit of despair, she’s someone who can make me crack a smile at least once. She has a way of making me feel like I matter. She constantly reminds me that I’m a Bad Bitch and can take anything, which is something that I need to be reminded of every once in a while.

Use Spotify to Change Your Mood.

Music is a fast way to make you feel better. But be careful music can make you spiral too. Listen to songs that uplift you and make you feel fucking amazing. No sad songs. No I miss you songs. No breakup songs. No Adele or Sam Smith (I love them both). No everything sucks songs. You know what I’m talking about. Everyone has a sad playlist. Don’t listen to it. These songs make me want to dance and sing in the shower.

Go Volunteer. Go Help Someone.

I’ve been there. I have bad days too. Some days I wonder how it going to make it through. But I’m every situation where I’m feeling shitty about something I realize that there is someone out there who has it way worse. Instead of focusing on the bad, be grateful because there’s always someone who has it worse. When I see someone in need, I try my best to help. Whether it’s buying someone a cup of coffee, or just being there for them. Try to help where you can. Knowing that you’ve done something to make someone else’s day better is so rewarding. Try to be there for someone, make their day.
